The SEEDS Chapter at UCR is excited to organize a program consisting of a four-day (three-night) field trip to the Tejon Ranch Preserve and Carrizo Plain National Monument from Monday, March 25th to Thursday, March 28th, during Spring Break. Please note all plans are tentative. The applications are closed.

Field Trip Description This trip will provide a unique field experience for students excited about ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, wildlife science, conservation biology, and related fields. Students attending this trip will learn about ecological concepts, research, and potential careers while experiencing an array of unique ecosystems. Before the trip, we will host a preparation workshop to learn about the places we will be visiting. During the trip, we will tour the locations, observe flora & fauna, meet scientists conducting research there, and learn about a range of research techniques. |
There will be absolutely no fees for undergraduate participants; transportation, food, and accommodations will be provided. We will assist all participants in acquiring appropriate field attire/gear prior to the trip.
Participant Selection
We welcome students of any major and year, and especially encourage 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd- years to apply. We are looking for participants that:
- are most likely to take advantage of the learning and professional development opportunities provided by this experience
- express sincere passion for ecology
- would benefit greatly from this experience including, but not limited to, those with little past experience in the outdoors
- have a strong desire to remain long-term members of the UCR SEEDS chapter and participants in the National SEEDS program after the field trip
Please be as specific as you can in your answers. Participants will be selected by the SEEDS Executive Board with input from faculty advisers.

Trip Workshops [participants only]
CCFE Workshop #1

This is the first workshop of the series. Participants will meet one another for the first time and get an idea of what the trip will entail. We went over important logistical components of the trip such as the goals of the trip, code of conduct, packing list, and next step details to keep in mind. This is also an opportunity for students to ask questions and clarify details of the trip, many students have never been camping before so this is an important opportunity to check-in and prepare everyone for a safe and fun trip!
In the next workshop, we will go over the natural history of Tejon Ranch and Carrizo Plain (and ecological research done at these sites). We have assigned readings about the backgrounds of the sites, so there will be ample opportunity to have group discussions about the locations before we go there!
